Hey Swimmers & Parents!
This weekend I swam the 26th Annual Lake Berryessa Swim hosted by Davis Aquatics Masters. This was my fourth year in a row that I swam the mile swim and just like every year before I loved it! Every year the weather was awesome and the sun was shining. This year was no different, and the water was a cool 70 degrees.
You may think, "Wow a mile that's really long, I could never swim that distance! But don't worry, you have all the time in the world to finish and there are many swimmers like you that have never swam open water before. Now let me tell you little about the race day...When you arrive you must check in (similar to a swim meet) at the correct place. Swimmers ages 8-10 are only allowed to sign up for the 500 yard swim, but swimmers ages 11-18 swim the mile. At the check-in desk you receive a mug and a swim cap, and an awesome t-shirt if you pre-order one.
Now parents don't worry they have many different adults categories for the 1 & 2 mile swims including: 40 & older, 40 & under, and wetsuit division) I swear I saw a 75 year old woman swimming the 2 mile!
Before the race make sure you check out the 1 mile course so you don't get lost. At 11:00 sharp, the 18 and under, 1 mile swimmers take off and swim. The mile took me about 25 minutes to complete. This race is super fun and a totally different experience, I encourage all of you (both swimmers and parents) to sign up next year! See you there!
